32 INCLUDED IN-DEMAND OCCUPATIONS
The technology sector plays an important role in British Columbia’s economy, and tech employment is at its highest level ever recorded which has led to an increased demand for talent.
To ensure that the technology sector can attract and retain much needed skilled workers, a pilot under the BC Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP) was established. The program was formally launched on August 28, 2017. The BC PNP Pilot allows for a fast-track, permanent immigration pathway for in-demand foreign workers and international students.
What are the features of the BC PNP Tech Pilot?
There will be weekly invitations for registrants to apply so that employers can have timely access to qualified individuals in the 32 key technology occupations. There will also be priority processing times to meet the sector’s fast-paced demands, meaning that the file will be assigned by the next business day to a dedicated technology sector-focused team. The BC PNP Tech Pilot will also feature outreach and engagement for applicants, including tailored presentations, networking opportunities and employer support.
How does the PNP Tech Pilot process work?
The 2016 TechTalent BC Report specifically identifies 32 in-demand occupations. These occupations are identified by their National Occupational Classification (NOC). If your occupation falls within one of the 32 listed occupations, you can register online with BC PNP and receive a free registration score. Every week (subject to processing capacity), a draw will be made to invite the highest scoring applicants to apply. If you are invited to apply, you have up to 30 calenda a work permit support letter which will allow them to obtain or renew their current work permit, so they may work throughout the permanent residency process. Processing time will ber days from the date of invitation to submit a complete application online, which will require a processing fee of $700. If approved, you will receive a nomination that you can use to apply for Permanent Residence with IRCC under the expedited Provincial Nominee Class. Applicants who are nominated and meet the conditions of their nomination will receive around 2-3 months, but this is dependent upon the number of applicants applying.
Which occupations are included in the BC PNP Tech Pilot?
The 32 in-demand occupations are listed below. However, if your occupation is not on the list you may still be eligible to apply under the BC PNP as they will continue to conduct regular draws for qualified individuals across many different occupations based on the annual allocation and the program’s processing capacity.
