Evelyn Ackah is the Founder and Managing Lawyer of Ackah Business Immigration Law based in Calgary, Alberta. Her legal practice focuses exclusively in the area of Canadian and cross-border U.S. immigration law. She has had a successful legal career for more than sixteen years. After 12 years of practicing law in Toronto at national and international law firms on Bay Street, she moved to Calgary in 2008 as a partner with a national law firm. In 2010, Evelyn launched Ackah Business Immigration Law to focus on what she does best and to provide innovative and flexible legal services that only a boutique law firm can offer. Ackah Business Immigration Law embodies Evelyn’s independent spirit, her passion for law and her desire to provide the best possible client service.
Evelyn and her law firm are strong supporters of the Chamber and the great work they do in support of small and medium sized businesses and young entrepreneurs. Evelyn believes in the strategic vision of the Chamber and the importance of bringing together diverse perspectives to create an even more dynamic and proactive organization. It would be an honour to be elected to the Board.
Evelyn is currently a member of the HR Committee of the Calgary Chamber of Commerce. She is an experienced board member and has served with a number of organizations. She was a National Committee member and Chair of the Calgary “Women Moving Women” campaign on behalf of the Canadian Women’s Foundation. She is also a past member of the Board of Directors of the Canadian Institute for the Administration of Justice. Evelyn served as Treasurer of the American Immigration Lawyers Association - Canada Chapter and she served on the Executive of the Ontario Bar Association - Immigration Section. She was also Vice Chair of the Immigration Section of the National Bar Association (U.S.). Evelyn also served for four years as a Director and Member of the Executive Committee of Junior Achievement of Central Ontario. Evelyn is also an active supporter of the arts community and she regularly provides pro-bono legal services to Theatre Calgary, Decidedly Jazz Dance, The Shakespeare Company, The Banff Centre, and Vertigo Theatre, among others.
