Canada has announced new online immigration application portals to apply for permanent residence that will make the immigration process more efficient and help applicants avoid COVID-related mail delays. IRCC (Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada) announced that 7 paper-based economic class applications are now available online. Paper applications for these programs can still be made in addition to the new digital application system.
- Non-Express Entry (base) Provincial Nominee Program (PNP)
- Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot
- Agri-Food Pilot
- Atlantic Immigration Pilot
- Quebec Selected Investor Program
- Quebec Entrepreneur Program
- Quebec Self-Employed Persons Program
Canada's Online Immigration Initiatives
In addition to the 7 new virtual PR application portals, IRCC is in the process of digitizing other paper-based immigration programs. Canada’s immigration minister Marco Mendicino said his vision for the immigration system is for all processes to be virtual and contactless beyond the pandemic. Canada began offering online citizenship ceremonies during the pandemic.
Canada implemented an online landing process in December 2020 as part of IRCC's COVID measures. The new virtual landing process will reduce the amount of time it takes to process permanent residence immigration applications.
