New Videos Help Newcomers Adjust to Life In Canada

Moving to a new country can be confusing, frustrating and stressful - no matter how much you want to make the move. The Canadian federal and provincial governments are committed to helping newcomers successfully integrate into their new home, and provide many immigrant integration programs. Canada's IRCC has released two new videos to help newcomers settle in and adjust to living in their new country.

Language training in support of the Francophone Integration Pathway
This video introduces the free language training services that help newcomers improve their English and French language skills so they are successful and thrive in their new daily life in Canada, at work and in their community.

Your Mental Health and Well-being
Moving to a new country is very stressful. This video explains how IRCC's newcomer settlement organizations provide mental health resources to help their physical and mental health, and help to immigrants find help and resources so they are not feeling frustrated and challenged.

Canada immigration lawyer Evelyn Ackah explained that culture shock can happen to anyone - including people who have travelled extensively or lived abroad before:

"Moving to a new country, making new friends, starting a new job - it's a big adjustment. Even when someone has gone through extensive orientation and preparation to prepare for the adjustment, it can be overwhelming. We're so fortunate that Canada is very welcoming to newcomers and offers so many wonderful programs and resources to help newcomers adjust, and that many local businesses and services can help immigrants adjust to life in their new country."

Economic Immigration

Economic immigrants make up almost 60% of new permanent residents admitted to Canada; most of whom immigrate through the Express Entry immigration system for skilled workers. Statistics Canada projects that by 2036, immigrants will make up 24.5% - 30% of Canada's population and Canada will be competing with other industrial countries for a share of young, skilled workers.
