NEXUS application centres will reopen at 8 Canadian airports starting March 27, 2023. Starting Monday, March 20, NEXUS applicants can book interviews at most major Canadian airports. There is a backlog of 269,00 applications as of March 1, 2023, according to the Canada Border Services Agency. In March 2020 NEXUS offices closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and a diplomatic dispute with the United States over legal protections for American customs officers.

What Is NEXUS?
NEXUS is a trusted traveller program that allows pre-approved members to have expedited crossing of the Canada-United States border without having to go through the traditional customs process. Membership for NEXUS is valid for five years and offers expedited Customs clearance at both the Canadian and American border.
Approved NEXUS members undergo a background and security check and are deemed low-risk travellers by both Canada and the United States and given faster customs and immigration processing when crossing the US/Canada border.
Program members have access to dedicated processing lanes at designated northern border ports of entry and NEXUS kiosks when entering Canada by air and Global Entry kiosks when entering the United States via Canadian Preclearance airports. NEXUS members also receive expedited processing at marine reporting locations.
